The 1UP shares the footprint of the 1AM but runs at a lower 6,000 rpm free speed with a slightly higher torque curve, making it easier to couple directly to small drives without a gear reducer. Like the whole AM family it is a rotary-vane design: compressed air enters the housing, pushes against four self-sealing vanes and turns the rotor, and speed is set by the supply pressure and flow.

Note that GAST rates the 1UP lubricated frame for 5.6 bar (80 psi) rather than the 7 bar of the other AM frames. The -NRV-3A is the hub-mount, reversible, flat-shaft configuration; the motor carries CE and ATEX (II 2 GD c T4) marking for Zone 1 and 2 use.
