GAST Air Motor (Series Overview)

GAST's AM-series rotary-vane air motors span seven frame sizes from the 0.31 kW 1AM to the 6.7 kW 16AM, with free speeds from 2,000 to 10,000 rpm, peak torques from 0.6 to 42 Nm, and a common pattern of hub, foot, face, NEMA 56C and IEC flange mountings in reversible or single-rotation form.

for Hazardous Areas

GAST air motors all use the same rotary-vane principle: compressed air enters a cylindrical chamber and pushes on four or eight self-sealing vanes carried in an eccentric rotor, turning the output shaft. Speed and torque are controlled simply by regulating the air supply, so the motor can be slowed to a crawl, stalled under load or reversed instantly without damage or electrical switchgear. The range runs from the 0.31 kW, 10,000 rpm 1AM through the 2AM (0.71 kW), 4AM (1.27 kW), 6AM (3 kW) and 8AM (3.7 kW) to the 6.7 kW 16AM.

Model codes follow a consistent pattern: frame size (e.g. 4AM), then a letter block for mounting and rotation (N = standard hub/face imperial, F = foot, A = metric IEC flange; RV = reversible, CC / CW = single rotation), then a configuration number for shaft, ports and vane count, with an optional LL or NLP suffix for lube-free capability. Spur (GR11/GR20/GR25) and worm (AG800 series) gear reducers extend the range to 587 Nm output torque.
