Engineering Solutions

A nitrogen atmosphere in the annealing of copper and steel wire prevents surface oxidation and gives a bright finish; on-site nitrogen generation meets this need economically. We offer pneumatic conveying of PVC and PE granules for cable insulation and solutions for extrusion cooling water circuits.

Wire and cable plants combine drawing, annealing and extrusion, each with its own media: drawing lubricants, protective gas and insulation granules. Annealing copper or steel wire under nitrogen from an on-site generator prevents discolouration and keeps the surface ready for plating or enamelling. Dilute phase conveying feeds PVC, PE and XLPE granules from silos or octabins to the extruders, and centrifugal pumps circulate cooling water through the extrusion troughs and transfer drawing emulsions. For a proposal, send wire material and throughput, annealing method and gas flow, granule types and quantities, and cooling water flow and temperature.

Frequently asked questions

What nitrogen purity is needed for annealing copper wire?

Bright annealing of copper wire usually requires nitrogen with low residual oxygen, often 99.9–99.99%, sometimes with a small hydrogen addition to reduce existing oxides. The required surface quality and the downstream process, such as tinning or enamelling, determine the exact purity.

How far can insulation granules be conveyed with dilute phase systems?

Dilute phase systems commonly convey plastic granules over distances of tens of metres up to around 100 m or more, depending on throughput, pipe layout and the number of bends. Distances, tonnage per hour and granule type let us select the blower and pipe diameter.
