In food production, all equipment that touches the product must be hygienically designed and easy to clean (CIP). We offer hygienic and lobe pumps for milk, sauces, juices and products with particulates; nitrogen generators that remove oxygen in packaging to extend shelf life; and pneumatic conveying for flour, sugar and powders.

Food plants switch between products, clean several times a day and must avoid any dead zone where bacteria can grow. Hygienic centrifugal pumps suit thin liquids and CIP return, while rotary lobe pumps move yoghurt, sauces and fruit preparations with pieces at low shear. Nitrogen from an on-site generator flushes oxygen out of packs for modified atmosphere packaging, and dilute phase conveying moves flour, sugar and other powders in a closed line. When should I choose a rotary lobe pump instead of a hygienic centrifugal pump?

Choose a lobe pump when the product is viscous, contains whole pieces or is shear-sensitive, or when you need a flow that stays constant against changing pressure. Centrifugal pumps are simpler and cheaper for thin liquids such as milk, water and CIP solutions.

What residual oxygen can nitrogen flushing achieve in food packaging?

Depending on the product and packaging machine, nitrogen flushing typically brings residual oxygen down to between 0.5% and 2%; sensitive products such as nuts or coffee often need below 1%. Nitrogen purity is chosen to reach that target without unnecessary energy use.
