Engineering Solutions

High-purity nitrogen used as an assist gas when laser cutting stainless steel and aluminium prevents oxidation at the cut edge and removes the need for secondary processing. High-pressure on-site nitrogen systems cut cylinder and tank costs; together with laser cutting and CNC machines we deliver turnkey solutions.

Fibre lasers cutting stainless steel and aluminium use nitrogen at high pressure and high flow, so assist gas is often the largest running cost after the machine itself. An on-site nitrogen generator with booster and high-pressure storage delivers gas at a purity matched to the material and thickness. Clean, dry compressed air is essential for both the generator and the cutting head optics, which is why dryers and filters belong in the package. For a proposal, send laser power, materials and thicknesses, nozzle sizes and operating hours.

Frequently asked questions

What nitrogen purity is needed for laser cutting stainless steel?

For oxide-free, bright edges on stainless steel, 99.95–99.999% is common; mild steel and aluminium often cut acceptably at 99.5–99.9%. Lower purity reduces generator size and energy use. Your quality requirement on the cut edge determines where in this range you should be.

How do I estimate nitrogen consumption for a fibre laser?

Consumption depends on nozzle diameter and cutting pressure, typically 12–25 bar. A larger nozzle at high pressure can use well over 50 Nm³/h. With nozzle sizes, pressures and the share of cutting time per shift, we calculate average and peak demand for sizing.
