Engineering Solutions

Inerting cargo tanks with nitrogen on tankers and chemical carriers eliminates the risk of explosion. For ballast, bilge and fuel transfer we offer centrifugal, screw and diaphragm pumps built for marine conditions, plus mobile solutions for shipyards and maintenance work.

On board, equipment has to cope with salt air, vibration, limited space and long intervals between port calls. Nitrogen generators make inert gas for cargo tanks, pipelines and purging without carrying high-pressure cylinders. For ballast and bilge duty, centrifugal pumps handle large volumes, twin screw pumps move fuel and lube oil with low pulsation, and air-operated diaphragm pumps are practical for oily water and shipyard work where no electrical supply is available. Lubrication equipment, spare parts and seals support planned maintenance. For a proposal, send the vessel type, medium, flow, head, temperature and any class or hazardous-area requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What nitrogen purity is used for inerting cargo tanks on chemical tankers?

Inerting usually aims to keep oxygen in the tank atmosphere below about 8%, while some cargoes require nitrogen of 95–99.9% purity for padding or purging. The cargo data sheets and the vessel’s operating procedures define the value; we size the generator for the required purity and flow.

Why use a twin screw pump for fuel and oil transfer?

Twin screw pumps deliver a smooth, low-pulsation flow over a wide viscosity range, from light diesel to heavy fuel oil, and can run dry for short periods. They also self-prime well. Viscosity range, flow and discharge pressure determine the pump size and the required drive power.
