In pharmaceutical production, product-contact surfaces must be clean and verifiable to prevent cross-contamination and meet GMP requirements. In peristaltic pumps the fluid touches only the tube; together with high-purity diaphragm valves and hygienic pumps they form a reliable base for sterile lines.

Pharmaceutical processes are judged as much on what can be documented and cleaned as on performance. Peristaltic pumps keep the product inside a replaceable tube, which simplifies changeovers and suits sterile filling and dosing of small volumes. High-purity diaphragm valves isolate purified water and WFI loops without dead legs, hygienic pumps circulate those loops, and nitrogen from an on-site generator blankets reactors and solvent tanks to limit oxidation and explosion risk. For a proposal, send the fluid, required accuracy, flow and pressure, temperature, cleaning or sterilisation method (CIP/SIP) and the documentation your quality system requires.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a peristaltic pump for dosing and filling?

With a good tube and controlled speed, peristaltic pumps typically repeat within ±0.5–1% of the set volume. Accuracy depends on tube material, wall thickness, back pressure and how long the tube has been in service, so regular tube changes form part of the procedure.

What should I check when selecting diaphragm valves for WFI systems?

Check surface finish of wetted parts, diaphragm material such as PTFE/EPDM, drainability and dead-leg dimensions, and suitability for steam sterilisation temperatures. Material certificates and traceability must match your validation requirements. Line size and installation angle also affect drainability.
